Medallion Bowl, 7”x16”x16” Wheel-thrown, reduction fired Proto-porcelain with local stone glaze
I make functional pottery out of a domestic proto-porcelain that I designed and produce at the studio. I incorporate local raw materials into the work which creates a unique chemistry between myself, clay, and glaze, be it wood ash from the fireplace or rock dust from the quarry.
Josh is a potter based in Floyd, VA where he pots and teaches at a local University. He has traveled extensively, made several pilgrimages to the birthplace of porcelain in Jingdezhen China, been a resident artist at the Cub Creek Foundation in Appomattox, VA, and achieved his terminal degree in the fine arts. The path, however winding, has led Josh to become a potter dedicated to his craft and the pursuit of making thoughtful objects.
